I think the split of Bell Mobility bodes well for Clearnet in terms of its takeover potential. If Telus wants national coverage in PCS, it is going to have to buy it or build it. The same goes for BCE. Clearnet is the obvious choice given the compatibility of its network with those of the former partners in Bell Mobility. Moreover, with four PCS providers already operating in most major centres, I don't see any need for the CRTC or the Competition Bureau to block a merger.

Alternatively, there must be other parties with pockets just as deep that are eyeing Clearnet as a potential acquisition candidate. Clearnet would provide any one of them with an excellent opportunity to broaden their telecom service offerings in the attractive Canadian market. In my view, Clearnet is not likely to remain independent for long.
