Judge finds ex-brokerage chief manipulated Shopping.com stock

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

LOS ANGELES, May 14 — A federal judge found that a former brokerage-firm president, Cery B. Perle, manipulated the stock of one of his firm's clients, Shopping.com, an Internet retailer.

THE RULING by Judge Dickran Tevrizian came in response to a suit filed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against Mr. Perle, who was president and part owner of the now-defunct Irvine, Calif., brokerage firm Waldron & Co. The judge issued an injunction against Mr. Perle and imposed $110,000 in penalties.

Mr. Perle Thursday denied any wrongdoing. He said he hadn't had adequate funds to defend himself against the SEC charges and plans to appeal the judge's decision.

Waldron served as underwriter for Shopping.com when the Corona del Mar, Calif., company made its initial public offering in November 1997. In a suit filed in September in Los Angeles federal court against Mr. Perle and Waldron, the SEC contended that the defendants manipulated the price of Shopping.com shares from their initial level of $9 a share to more than $32.

On Thursday, SEC attorney Clifford Hyatt said the investigation is continuing.

Earlier this year, Shopping.com was purchased by Compaq Computer Corp. for $220 million.

OTOT So John Hauser after your last recommendation to buy Dell ( at 43 3/16 )
what is your current advice? Buy more at today's low of 36 1/2? <G>.

I think before we do any buying <g>, it is best to review this at Bloomberg's ( same thing I told you 1 month ago ):
PC Makers, Facing a Slowdown, Hunt for New Markets
bloomberg.com

My Merrill broker told me today that if I must buy Dell, better to wait till it hits 35. I will probably pass on Dell now 'cause it's hard to see the grass grow.

Back to the drawing board Johnny,

TA

Note: I apologize to all Dellheads. This is meant as a non-inflammatory discussion between Johnny and me <g>

Dude, you really need to do your homework when it comes to PC biz.
You are clueless,
JH

You further recently said:
Hi John. Iceland, COOL! (pun intended) John, I bought Dell in Nov 95 and it
proceeded to drop 50% within the following 4 months. I hung on.

Dell is not the same company now as it was then (It's PE contracted to 7!) BUT, IT
IS A BETTER COMPANY NOW!

Hang on.

At this point we're experiencing alot of market volatility.....BUT please put on your
"ten year glasses".

LLLLOOOOONNNNGGGGG with you, I hope.
