On the same subject of secrets, didn't Iterated know a thing or two about fractals and their application? As I recall, all that tmmi had was the theoretical while ITI was supposed to provide the practical. Turns out that nobody provided anything - except years of baloney.

Hi Waldy. I don't think anyone is going to answer the question of patents. I don't think anyone knows for sure, but some suspect that TMM operated off of licenses and agreements only. They probably never suspected that such fighting and underhanded manipulation would ensue, to the extent of people disappearing or dying. Little did they know at that point that while they trusted everyone, there was no one that could be trusted.

I haven't seen any patents but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Tom has said that the actual technology they developed at AMCI and brought to TMM was a hybrid.
