The beauty of G&S is that it's almost impossible to do it badly as long as you do it with love and spirit.

It is possible to do badly. What did you think of "Star Trek: Insurrection" wherein a shuttlecraft from the Enterprise is equipped with a complete karaoke system, including the little sing-along bouncing ball, and the lyrics and music to HMS Pinafore, so that Captain Picard and the Klingon could overpower Commander Data the computer by singing Jack Tar at him?

But Camelot is not first rate music OR lyrics.

I suspect Edwarda would take issue with this statement. I believe that it is rather a subjective thing, but I prefer R&H to G&S.

Should I have obtained the understanding from your message that the presentation in Seattle was your first exposure to Camelot? If so, I suggest that you acquire the soundtrack with Julie Andrews as Guinevere and give a listen. I saw Camelot again about two years ago with Robert Goulet as King Arthur and his son as Lancelot du'Lac. Very well done.

But, as the wise Greek once said, "to each his urn"...

Although I do agree with you on the bullet-proof joys of G&S, I do not find the music and plot of Camelot to be inferior. Perhaps you were subjected to talentless performances. I have attended the opera and found insipid performances destroyed pleasure.....
