Off topic - my garage door opener (and -- the semiconductor chip inside).

Any thoughts on the following : our garage door opener works well early in the day, but usually requires pushing the button about 6 times if I have been "out" (and am returning home) late in the day.

One theory -- "hot chip." Since this is South Florida, the car heats up to about 140 degrees or more (I've been told by a local car dealer) when parked out in the sunlight. I assume all semiconductor chips have an operating temperature range.

The chip inside is a Motorola chip (I looked). Can chips be manufactured to different temperature tolerances ?

If so, wouldn't you think that design engineers know that car interiors get hot ?

Another theory - the battery gets "exhausted" by use early in the day.

(Or, maybe the battery gets too hot ?)

Let's put all of the electrical engineering talent available on this thread to some serious good use ! (If you are not busy).
