The Chinese themselves have blown any opportunity for shooing the espionage case under the rug. There will be a backlash on Capitol Hill in response to the Chinese uproar over the embassy bombing. China is toeing a very fine line, and they may end up hanging themselves instead of getting concessions. They may find it even harder to get admittance to the WTO, for example...
