Michelle,
Gerstner an accountant? Come on. He's a marketer to the bone. He's merely taking the opportunity to capitalize on the fact that his company turns $7-8 per share profit annually. I'm long IBM for a long, long time, and I've also traded AMZN, AOL, et. al.,but IMHO Gerstner is merely doing what Bezos, Case, et. al. have been doing for the past couple of years (except that Gerstner has profits to back up his statements). In a market as afraid of Greenspan as this one is, the big money is looking for a "low risk" tech play. Gerstner happens to be leading that organization.

The most egregious example I guess was
Sculley at Apple.

I doubt I should get started on Sculley. I dislike him more than AMZN;-)
