Betty,

That's pretty obscure <G>. Actually, there are quite a few players making noise now -- the DRAM manufacturers and the test equipment manufacturers -- because, I believe, they have products that are already sampling and shipping. As we start seeing Camino/motherboards/systems shipping, we'll hear noise from those vendors.

Not putting out releases before your products ship (as I mentioned I preferred in my last post) is not a rule "written in stone". It's just my preferences based on the downsides I mentioned (plus it gives your competition more time to react to your news). There are a lot of marketing people that put out scads of press releases whenever the mood strikes them. One thing I can say from experience is that if you put out tons of bullshit releases, then, like the boy who cried wolf, the editors begin to ignore you and may miss your release when you really do have something to say. And there are occasions when you do want to pre-announce (primarily if some vendor is ahead of you and you want to muddy the water for their customers, but, again, this gives the competition more time to react to you as well).

Rambus is relying on and working with their vendors to make sure that news gets out as appropriate. As you read each release, you'll see that there's almost always a blurb at the bottom that describes Rambus and you'll usually find some quotes from Rambus personnel in the release. That almost always means that the release has been prepared and distributed jointly.

FWIW,

Dave
