Not a problem with Lanier...

Thank you for writing. There were no deadlines publicly announced by the company for either of the two generations of music-player prototypes delivered by e.Digital to Lucent.

Production units have not begun shipping to Lanier. Beta units have been receiving great reviews from their customers, and when news comes out, the e-mail list will definitely be informed.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Best regards,

Wendy Ravenel

Walter,

The elimination of a buffer memory may be useful if file sizes remain manageable, but currently files sizes for demanding memory applications where write speed is essential may be limited to digital cameras where uncompressed 2 megapixel files may reach 4 or 5 megabytes (digital photography = large file size and rapid write cycles).

I am not certain if buffer memory is essential for other platforms.

Also, the microdrive is not a flash memory product so the applications you mention for MicroOS do not appear to apply.
