Alohal,
Hi!!!

RE: IMO the hand writing is on the wall, Dell must move into the higher margin areas of the computer industry and must do so quickly. Neither IBM nor CPQ (even with all of its current troubles) will roll over and play dead. I have complete confidence in Dell's management. I believe they have in place a broad strategic plan. I further believe they are systematically putting in place the pieces to make that plan come together. Unfortunately I'm not clever enough to have figured out what that plan is. However, we can surely see some of the pieces:
Gigabuys, e-commerce investments and alliances, the IBM components deal, the request for increasing the number of outstanding shares, the new facilities in Tenn. and so on. I've never been very good at jig-saw puzzles, so the picture isn't yet in focus for me. Perhaps others here are better at this sort of thing and I think we might all profit from a continuing dialogue on this subject. Regards and aloha.

Hey that was a great post...really...you've been doing your homework...the part about IBM and DELL...well, what I imagine is how the other two will survive if this occurs...Imagine trying to outbid the two if they have an alliance...IMO CPQ and HWP are in trouble if this is pulled off...DELL already is the premier service company ...the best tech builder anywhere...I keep telling folks that you can't afford not to do business with DELL now....Imagine trying to beat them if they have the service force of IBM and the DELL structural advantage of the Virtual Integration information that they have accumulated over all these years? DELL by itself is conquering everywhere...I just imagine this happen because Michael has told us his only real fear is outgrowing his service for the hyper growth of the company...
Yeah...I like doing these puzzles...never had one come out right yet...but, it's fun knowing there are some folks that make all of them turn out perfect... :o)

Best, Kemble
