He grew soybeans and corn. He didn't, his tenant farmers did. The bean market was more volatile than the corn market. A 2 cent move down meant he lost a grand or so. In the 60s 4 days was a new T-Bird on his scale.

It was taken at face value, er, face isn't the right term. Nope, just a guy who lived in a bungalow and was worth millions and walked around naked. We didn't do value judgements. Seemed normal to us.
