Quentin Hardy, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, who has written accurately and fairly about the Iridium system from the start, has an article out today (it should be in tomorrow's WSJ) about Iridium's latest travails. In it, Hardy discusses two points that should give Globalstar afficionados some pause: Maximum international rates are likely to be $3.00, and smaller phones will be available by the 4th quarter.

If Globalstar domestic rates, as published by Airtouch, are going to be $1.50-2.00, what competition will Globalstar be able to offer for the restructured and cheaper Iridium?

Iridium as an investment case is moot, as I've said, and as Goodboy long ago predicted. But...the business case, the competitive case...that may be an entirely different story.

I read your comments Goodboy. I have been around a long time, and this Iridium thing smells of fraud-- pure and simple. As for the analysts, I never pay attention to them. But I won't let Watts off easy-- he is a perfect moron who should have his Mercedes stripped from him for his failure to do due diligence. Hence the reference to "banking whore".

As I wrote earlier today, I would not be surprized to see some jail time from this Iridium fiasco. As for your comments on Globalstar, I can't predict prices on any equity really. If it goes to $10, may you be the first to lose money in it. Don't take it personally. But there is a smugness with which you make your pronouncement on the share price that kind of irks me. Again, don't take it personally.
