I think you will find that until the laser stocks fell off the table, big media jammed many of these companies as fad material. I watched many of the big players overstate the negatives of laser surgery thinking the industry would go up in smoke. You can judge the coverage by the number of analyst following the issues. They seem to be consumed with Net stocks, and the fact that eye surgery was making money did not mean much. As for public awareness, I love the fact that these stocks have jumped anywhere from 6 to 12 times the average basis without concentrated advertising. Can you imagine what will happen when the world finds out. It will only take a small marketing ploy -- convince the public mind that eyeglasses are "ugly".
