Rande:

Being on the radio side I have another perspective altogether. I worked for Program Directors in the 70's who were afraid of their shadow & hid behind the Top 40 hit format. A total lack of anything creative & thus AOR FM formats were born & did very well. Why, because they played LP tracks, not the same old same old. Exactly where I wanted to be, so off I went to change the programming rules.

Good music is good music whether it's a so-called hit or not & as we all know many a hit was discovered by jocks who liked a song & played it. Today's radio is controlled by bean counters & void of an creativity at all.

DirectTV offers a ton of CD quality, various formats, music only feeds. What a treat that is .. keep it on CH 508 Lite Jazz .. no talking, no spots, just great music. Between what the Satellite offers & what the net will offer through cable, commercial radio as we know it will be saying 'much less listeners' soon!

I have listened to many new artists online and think the net will give them a great audience, if they can market themselves to be heard.

Cheers,

Mike
