I hope that Amazon goes for quality in auctions,

and not just cut-throat margins. As with books, you want the box to arrive in time and no hassle. There is no problem to pay the extra dollar.

With auctions, you want good descriptions, large audience, high visibility, good service, on time delivery and payment.

So, what did your mother had to pay to Amazon and Ebay? A fixed amount or a percentage with a minimum?

One of the best features of Amazon is that people go there to buy.
Other portals attract large numbers of freebies or bargain hunters and have to get their earnings from adds.

Two goals for ecommerce websites:
turn visitors into buyers
turn buyers into repeat buyers

AMZN is doing just fine.

Jeff-Auctions referred to Mr. Bezos himself.
