hdl, my friend...to short a stock is not now, never was, and never will be an "investment"...it is pure speculation on the short term movement of a stock.

very few dell "investors", defined as one who has a position of ownership in dell, through the purchase of dell shares are in an "unsuccessful" position...

what i have difficulty with is the mentality of one who fears not in losing more and more money, but in actuality fears more the loss of a bad decision potentially reversing....out of curiousity, how low must dell go, before your short breaks even????

talk about catching a falling knife...you did the opposite, standing in front of speeding bullet....do you honestly believe that dell will never trade higher than 41......????? if you have a penchant for shorting, and would like to rise above the amateur status of most of the boring bears who appear from time to time on this thread, at least learn to close the position when it increase 8-10%, basic stock market knowledge, which is seriously lacking with the 401k mentality geckos..."cut your losses short, let your profits run....

hdl...ya gotta close it, take your lumps, and move on...dell will in time double, and split...it's inevitable...look at ibm..fell out of favor...five years later with low double digit growth, it's up seven fold, and the darling of the street!!!! good luck, you need it...missed the biggest bull run by being "clever"? ed a.
