seriously..only thing that may strengthen such a rumor is the tremendous increase in ibm share price....perhaps the logic in dell increasing number of shares is to avoid hostile takeover??? good luck, ed a.

Gramps-

If DELL/IBM merger talks broke off over price a month or so ago, that problem may be resolved with the acceleration of IBMs stock price and, unfortunately, a deceleration of DELL's stock price. I do not know how I feel about this news, but I do believe that IBM has more leverage today to pull it off.

Even if this is rampant speculation, I do agree with you that this rumor will offer some distraction from the FOMC, analyst commentary, etc. that will be clogging the airwaves this week.
