Wouldn't you say that actual cable modem speeds currently being used at this time are more on the order of 10 to 27 Mb/s downstream? Some of the newer models will top out at 14 Mb/s (TERN, I believe).

And that VDSL, in its short distance from the pedestal role will be more like 52 Mb/s downstream?

I don't mean to nit here, but my figures would yield a twofold increase, at least, over the comparison that you drew. That seems to me to be significant enough to warrant highlighting it here.

If we up the CM to 32, after removing channel overhead, and reduce the VDSL to 45 just to demonstrate that we are all good sports, that's still a significant delta that we'd have to acknowledge.

Then again, if you are talking about theoretical envelopian limitations... then I'll keep my 52 intact. <smiles>
