Moscow--May 17--Russian President Boris Yeltsin has not
been seen in public since Thursday.
The Kremlin said it had no information yet on Yeltsin's
plans for today and this week.
The Kremlin also said it did not know where Yeltsin was
currently staying.
"We do not have any information on Yeltsin's plans for
today or this week yet. We also do not know where he is
staying now," a Kremlin spokeswoman said.
Yeltsin has not been shown on television since last
Thursday, when he met with France's President Jacques
Chirac.
While meeting Chirac, Yeltsin's face looked swelled and
he walked rather unsteadily.
Saturday, the Kremlin press service said Yeltsin
underwent a "regular health check up" and Yeltsin's health
was "normal" then.
After the check-up he retreated to his Rus residence,
150 km away from Moscow.
The Kremlin said Yeltsin met Saturday with Alexander
Voloshin, head of the presidential administration, in Rus,
but no footage of the meeting was shown.
Yeltsin's disappearance is rather unexpected, given the
pending Duma's vote on his nominee for prime minister Sergei
Stepashin Wednesday.
Yeltsin fired Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov May 12 and
appointed Stepashin acting prime minister.
Yeltsin also survived the Duma impeachment attempt
Saturday. The Kremlin said then Yeltsin was closely
monitoring the Duma's impeachment debates.
He suffered a series of illnesses in October-March and
spent weeks in hospital.
