Michael, I am grateful for the testimonial. I agree that the quality of the posts has generally been high, and I figure that there are those such as yourself who are moved to post less frequently, but follow along pretty faithfully. Other good examples are bp and George Coyne, who are usually with us, but only speak up from time to time. I read every post on this thread, which I consider my main thread, only occasionally "skimming". On the Kosovo thread, I skim, and sometimes skip, more, mainly because of offensive posters like Emile, or because of reiterative arguments, but I read the bulk of the posts. On the libertarian thread, I have kept up for quite awhile, arguing the differences between conservatives and libertarians. I recently have spent some time on the other Scandal thread, and have been faithful during that period of time, at least. Anyway, those of you who post "as the spirit moves" frequently make important contributions, too, because they are well- considered, and they are appreciated...

I wanted to add something about the "virtual community" aspect of all of this. Many of us find this an important outlet because it is hard to get together on so frequent and regular a basis with intelligent people who share our interests, are reasonably well- informed, and are willing to go on and on :-)...One of the reasons I have been happy to go off topic, or to catch someone at an odd time for a more personal conversation, is that these are ways of getting to know one another better, and establishing a greater degree of community. Besides, I love discussing music, movies, philosophy,religion--- all kinds of things. I was moved by what George Papadopolous said when bidding us farewell, about how much it had meant to him to have participated, and about the affection he felt even for those he sparred with...Anyway, I think that DS is busy imagining himself preventing the dissemination of "fetidness" by rendering the forum unreadable to potential lurkers, when in fact the important thing that is going on is that we have a virtual community developing, and he is just making himself the village idiot:-)...

Well said Michael. You may move me to reconsider my fight fire with fire approach with the contemptible Tiny Schuh. JLA

Glad to see the return of the smiley, Michael. Ok, so 1 person is reading con-man's great books regurgitation. Who cares?
