Powershred: Re: online brokers. I have been using Schwab for about 2 years and have had a problem only once, and that was not major. They occasionally go down during extremely heavy days, but are usually reachable by phone with not too long a wait. If you have enough assets or trade frequently, they have a Platinum account with many bells and whistles for free, and you have a special team of brokers with a separate phone number and almost no wait to talk with someone. I have so far been very satisfied. Not as cheap as some of the others, but very service/people oriented. Good luck and aloha
