I think the only way we will see a massive wholesale swapout of todays routed environments is when the Corporate Telephone System PBX is eliminated, and voice is put into the data stream to the desktop. At that time, large and medium corporations will reconsider their access methods.

Of course, this is all based on the premise that the RBOC or whoever is offering a cost effective 'pipe' whose reduced cost will help pay the way for elimination of the PBX, etc.

PS: It still costs more for basic ISDN in Atlanta than it does for ADSL in parts of CA.

I see where I got confused. I thought I2 was going to evolve into NGI much like the early evolution of the current internet with government and university as early users. NGI will require topology changes as you and Frank are discussing.
