tech - if MSFT puts NSCP's browser in; then they have to put everyone else's browser in

- then they have to put in several other freeware packages - of word processing, spreadsheets, heck - probably linux

- Clintonista DOJ is either totally inept or totally blinded by their hatred of captilism at its best

- in either case, DOJ's days are numbered if Repubs maintain control of Congress in 2000

Looks like Cisco is happy to see its Active Directory contract with MSFT nearing an end as it has now announced that it will develop new plans to integrate better with NOVL's NDS...

Cisco, Novell find common
ground in directory space

As time runs out on a contract binding Cisco Systems
Inc. to the fortunes of Microsoft Corp.'s
yet-to-be-released Active Directory, Cisco is drafting
new blueprints to integrate its hardware and software
with Novell Inc.'s Novell Directory Services.

According to sources close to the company, Cisco
(Nasdaq:CSCO) plans to integrate NDS with its
networking products, including its policy-based
software, which uses the directory to allocate policies
to the networking infrastructure.

t2k: Don't kid yourself concerning Clinton -he cares big time. He wanted more of Gate's $ support and Gates is now being punished for not giving enough. It is the man in charge who lets loose the dogs of war. He is responsible for everything that Janet Reno does and doesn't do and that ranges from Waco to all the suits aimed at the leaders of American Industry. If this guy had his way the trial lawyers would be given the green light to go after GM and the alcohol cos. for drunk driving deaths. What he ought to outlaw is the BS that his administration has been selling the politically naive of this country for 8 yrs.

Regarding the browsers this is like the Coke truck carrying other folks products around to take up their shelf space. I would think that this accomodation would be an item within the purview of the box maker. I received a CD with my HP called a recovery disc that presumably has Win98 and all of their stuff on board. Certainly they could have NScp Comm. installed on same if they were to work out a deal with AOL/NSCP but I don't think anyone wants NSCP now that they have seen IE 5.0. I for one am very satisfied with IE5.0 and I am an old Mac/Communicator person.

Jackson finds himself in an untenable position as once the courtroom theatrics are put aside and the paper evidence is reviewed what is it that MSFT is guilty of. You can't convict them for what MSFT's competitors allege they might do in the future. The consumer has not been harmed. Once again as an old Mac user I can vouch for the value that is incorporated in the Wintel product versus what I paid for in the Mac combination. Add to that the AOL/NSCP anomalies and the fact that the market place is changing so rapidly and you have nothing to point the finger at other than some of the contracts that MSFT has mended already.

I am sure that Jackson is casting about for something to convict them of and a remedy that makes sense. Good luck to him.
