<<'Guilty feelings' do not change national economic policy. >>

It is interesting that you mentioned guilty feeling ,which is from Christianity's "original sin". Chinese don't have the concept of guilt but they had the concept of "shame", which is as effective as a counterbalance tool as guilt. Without Christianity, Capitalism will be a monster, so are Chinese without "shame".

Shame is the corner stone of Confucianism. Unfortunately, Chinese took Confucianism away after culture revolution. Traditional Chinese afraid to do something bad that could disgrace their good family name. They were introspective people which always put themselves into other people's position. I won't defend Confucianism since it is the main culprit of China's ossification. But what is the counterbalance of Chinese people now? Westerners have Christianity; they afraid of God. Chinese without shame and don't believe in God and trained by communism, which denies human nature, is not a good combination.

My point of view is generalization at best, biased absolutely. I just want to stir up a conversation which can lead to introspection for everyone.

After all, China is the only nuclear power who dare to take the pledge of "never use nuclear weapon first".

Isn't that comparable to the US saying they won't use ground troops in the Balkans.

N'est de Jamais, Jamais.(sic)

Personally, were the US to use nuclear weapons in a pre-emptive strike, I'm fairly confident that it would mean the downfall of the US gov't at that time.

But let's face facts here. China can't threaten the US physically except with nuclear weapons. But they can threaten their neighbors, which equate to our interests (mainly in democracy and freedom of political choice).

Why can't we all just get along and do some business together. Business interests keep the hot-headed politicians in check and make them think twice.

Regards,

Ron
