FFA, The story I am about to tell you is gospel truth. I am a great believer in coincidences being lucky. I finished my cycle race at about 1915hrs Saturday in Devon, 125 miles from Cardiff. I walked into the house 1 hour later.......... But the best part of the trip involved a 1993, you've guessed it, Mazda RX7. I was cruising at circa 125 mph, on serious Smokey alert. The Mazda had its headlights on, but it was still daylight, as it latched onto my tail. Great, I thought, another motorist with balls in his Y fronts.......!! I changed down to 4th and acquainted the loud pedal with the carpet, changed up to 5th @ 7,000 (and 140mph) and then proceeded to hit the 5th gear limiter at 6200 rpm, 160 mph. The RX7 was making valiant efforts, but not making any real in roads. I opened up about half a mile when all of a sudden I saw a second pair of headlights behind the Mazda. It suddenly slowed when the blue flashing lights went on !! I have been in these situations before. And there is only one thing to do.......................runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn for it !!!! The guy who had the Alpina before me had averaged 25.5 mpg for 8,800 miles. I managed to lower that average to 23.5 in 125 miles.No I haven't done the math and I don't want to....... Apologies for slightly off topic but if MUCP shares hadn't gone up I would not have bought the car.......... bert, expecting the boys in blue any moment.
