The subject of security on the NET and patient records is something the company is very aware of. You also have to consider that the Dr's are currently being bombarded with new ides and business models by th very existence of the explosive web businesses. If a way can be found to record patient information on a server with hard copies in a file then you have several advantages. 1) The information could be retrieved remotely by a physician and a critical health problem addressed with full life saving information. 2)The depth and content quality can be improved and kept current. What if a patient could access his own file and update on a server area dedicated to him new information. These ideas and concepts are being tested. Will they ever see the light of day?
Who can answer that? The NET provides a vehicle whereby the consumer can get information. They can be empowered. The GP is already seeing a patient coming in armed with information and far less willing to delegate responsibility to the Doctor.
A little knowledge can be dangerous but in a recent report from Blue Cross blue Shield they estimated that for every $ spent on prevention they saved $7 in claims. Think about that model.
The NET is a consumer driven phenomenon. There are those that think that by controlling the Practitioners they will own the health portals. What do the consumers have to say about this? We will see!
Next how do these sites make money? How do they justify huge valuations? Again we will see!
