Yes. Prochnow was quite good. In many ways the film was quite excellent. In many other ways it was low budget, a bit goofy. Whenever the crew went above deck I oftentimes got the impression someone was constantly throwing buckets of water on them to simulate ocean spray. It was really quite hilarious. But the movie clearly showed that its producers loved making it. The film had exuberance. It occurred to me as I watched it that Amistad lacked this element. Despite its overall brilliance, it was really but another antiseptic, almost perfectly executed Spielberg film.
