Balance of payments surplus reaches US$10.4bn in April

Brasília, 17 - Brazil's balance of payments posted a surplus of
US$10.450bn in April, the Central Bank Economic Department (Depec)
informed. The figure is significantly better than that registered in
March, when the country registered a deficit of US$1.698bn. In April
last year, Brazil posted a surplus of US$5.993bn.
In the period from January through April, the Brazilian balance of
payments stood at a negative US$45m. In March, the accumulated deficit
amounted to US$10.495bn. In the corresponding period last year, the
country reported a surplus of US$22.444bn. (By Gustavo Freire)
