Alan, If memory serves me correctly, a MM that is short shares is required to cover that short position within 8 days. Often times MM's will work together and cross trade shares between the bid and ask amongst each other in order to get around the regulation and force them into covering their short positions. Not saying that is what is happening here but that is a possibility. If this were the case then I would expect the following to occur. If no volume insues they will work together to drive down the price in order to cover. If volume does build then they will either cover or continue shorting the stock.
