HP Selects Oracle8i(TM) as Preferred Database Repository for E-SpeakTechnology

Oracle(R) Internet Platform's Scalability, Reliability and Performance

Cited as Key by HP

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of Hewlett Packard's E-Services launch today, Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) announced that HP has selected Oracle8i(TM), the Internet platform for business innovation, as the preferred database repository for HP's new E-Speak technology, launched today at HP's E-Service strategy briefing. Oracle8i will also serve as a testing environment for E-speak and will be recommended by HP for use in developing and deploying E-Speak applications. Oracle8i will enable HP to build E-Speak applications that provide real-time, dynamic Web content to thousands of simultaneous users across the Internet, and will then serve as a repository for the content, enabling HP's customers to have instant access to the information they need for conducting E-Business over the Web.

"The combination of Oracle8i and HP's E-Speak will take the Internet a step further toward an E-Services world by allowing e-service components to interact across firewalls while effectively creating and maintaining secure trading communities for traders, business-to-business users and consumers," said Ann Livermore, president and CEO, HP Enterprise Computing, Hewlett Packard.

"Oracle and HP have a long tradition of being innovators in the industry," said Mike Rocha, senior vice president, Oracle Corporation. "Since the future of E-Business lies with open, powerful, fast and secure systems that are as easy to develop and use as they are to maintain, HP's choice of Oracle8i shows that Oracle is providing the technology infrastructure for the Internet."
