>>'It's going to be very important to own the technology related to those platforms,''
Farrell told the Bloomberg Forum at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. ''Perhaps more importantly, the platform transition is a good time to establish owned content and
brands.'' <<

If Sega's dreamcast shows some promise in terms of sales, both sony and nintendo will want to line up the "brand" titles that Farrell is talking about for their new platform releases. This will benefit those brand publishers in their dealings with console makers; ie about other titles to release, marketing support, and costs. What I am trying to say is that competition between console makers is good for publishers with the franchise titles; unlike the idea that console rotation is bad for the publishers.

MTV and Pacific Coast deals add great potential for THQ. Don Treger Productions was another of Jim Whims (thq board member) venture capital investments like GameFx; see this story on the begining of DT Productions mentions Jim Whims and Greg Ballard (3Dfx) It's a small world <G>
