Applix' Applixware and Anyware First Verified Linux Applications in IBM's Netfinity ServerProven Program
WESTBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 1999--Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX - news), a leader in decision support applications for Linux and UNIX workstations, announced today that the company has joined the IBM Netfinity® ServerProven(tm) program. The program certifies that Applixware for Linux and Anyware for Linux have been tested for compatibility on IBM's Intel-based Netfinity servers.

''We're delighted that Applix has become the first solution developer to verify two popular applications as part of the expanded ServerProven for Linux program,'' said Sandy Carter, Director of Netfinity Partners in Development. ''ServerProven helps to give confidence to customers that they are getting the right solution right out of the box. It's also significant to our customers because these verified solutions represent Linux applications which move beyond the more commonly-seen web-serving applications.''

The IBM Netfinity ServerProven program provides hardware and application compatibility testing leading to certification for independent business applications. The program pre-tests and validates software applications using IBM Netfinity Servers, operating systems and hardware options for ease of installation, configuration, use and maintenance in a real-world environment.

''Applix Sales is seeing an ever increasing number of corporate customers for our Applixware for Linux office suite. There is clearly a demand for major hardware companies such as IBM to certify applications for their platforms to guarantee compatibility,'' said R.J. Grandpre, VP Sales and Marketing for the Applixware Division. ''We're happy to be working with IBM and their Netfinity Server Proven program to ensure smooth installations and reliable implementations for mission critical business applications such as Applixware Office.''

Applixware and Anyware running on the Netfinity will be showcased at Applix' booth at the upcoming Linux Expo May 18-22, 1999 in Raleigh, NC.
