HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 1999--Nokia Multimedia Terminals announces the launch of the Nokia Mediamaster 9850 T, for ONdigital and UK terrestrial services, and the Mediamaster 9800 S, for digital free-to-air satellite services, at this year's Cable & Satellite Mediacast Show. The company will also be displaying a digital cable receiver to complete the second generation Mediamaster line-up.

Nokia Mediamaster 9850 T for ONdigital and UK digital terrestrial services
The most stylish way to receive ONdigital and UK digital terrestrial services arrives this month with the launch of the Nokia Mediamaster 9850 T. Just like Nokia's coveted mobile phones, every element of Nokia's Mediamaster 9850 T has been strikingly designed to be stylish and easy to use. The black livery includes a cleverly designed front panel, covering the card reader and Common Interface connector, creating a smooth-line chassis of unparalleled style. The powerful tuner, created to Nokia's own specification, ensures outstanding results with superior picture stability, even on the fringe or reception areas.
Portability of the "no dish" box allows customers to get maximum use from the product and installation, and setting up is quick and easy with Auto Set Up. The product is also ready for pay-per-view and interactive services, featuring a Common Interface connector as well as a built in modem.
The ergonomically designed remote control, which comes with each box in the Mediamaster range, has been especially developed for both left and right-handed users. It also features a carefully spaced easy-to-use button layout.
Nokia Mediamaster 9800 S for European digital free-to-air services Also launching this month is Nokia's Mediamaster 9800 S for digital free-to-air satellite services. This new model features Nokia's unique EPG. Based on a new 256 colour high-resolution system, the EPG provides on-screen menus and programmable channel preferences, allowing each member of the family to have their own favourite channels list. Users can either insert a smartcard directly or attach a CA-module. A variety of channels can be accessed such as CNN International, NBC, Cartoon Network and hundreds of foreign language channels.
This receiver has the option for integrated Satscan Software, allowing the user to operate the dish using the remote control.
Nokia Mediamaster 9820 T for Sweden's digital terrestrial network Nokia's Mediamaster 9820 T has been designed for Sweden's digital terrestrial network. Nokia is the only supplier of digital terrestrial set-top boxes in Sweden, the first of which was launched on 1 April 1999. A Senda smart-card gives users access to major Swedish TV channels including SVT1, SVT2, SVT24, SVT Regional, UR, TV8 and Canal+. Other channels such as TV3, TV4 and Kanal5 are expected to launch their digital services soon.
Developed in accordance with the Nordic specification for digital receivers, the 9820 T is based on the software platform >Open TV En and is fully DVB MPEG-2 compliant. The product is ready for pay-per-view and other interactive services, and receives both 2K and 8K COFDM signals.
Mediamaster digital cable receiver Nokia's digital cable receiver completes the digital Mediamaster line-up. The box features QAM demodulation for cable and the ability to update software over cable via transport stream. Also featured is a built-in telephone modem and embedded Viaccess with two smart-card readers, one of which can be used for bank cards. DVB DAVIC Interoperability Consortium Nokia Multimedia Terminals is a founding member of the DVB DAVIC Interoperability Consortium, which was set up in October 1998. The aim of the consortium is to support product interoperability that enables the deployment of interactive services over HFC and LMDS networks based on the DVB-RCCL and DAVIC international standards.
