Yeah, that article on fed policy was pretty hot stuff. I should have warned by putting ****XXX**** in case the kids were lurking.

I believe the consensus is that the fed will do nothing but will change it's bias toward raising rates. Personally, I don't think they'll change their bias.

As far as the CPI goes, you are correct about oil and tobacco, however I think it was the core CPI (which excludes food and energy prices) that threw everyone for a loop. Apparel, housing and medical costs were all up more than expected. However, the core component that really got everyone going was transportation costs which puzzles me because the rise there can pretty much be directly attributable to the rise in oil prices - a non-core component. This is why I think the fed won't give the CPI figures for April too much weight.
