Glenn, you still don't get it. Perception of quality is exactly what is behind the loyalty of an Amazon customer. Bezos is able to provide a community here that feels comfortable and cozy.

Yes, books are commodities, but the customer service and the way the products are presented make all the difference.

Computers are commodities, too, but that doesn't stop Dell from grabbing market share at every turn and leaving the competition in the dust. Absolutely incredible customer service is the key here; like one-click shopping, offering thousands of reviews, personalized recommendations, etc.

And don't discount the fact that it is simply very hip and cool to order from Amazon. Adults and high schoolers alike are constantly buzzing about what they just ordered from Amazon. I hear it when I'm out constantly, at work, on TV interviews, even at Barnes & Noble (non .com). You see, the perception of quality lies not only with merchandise, but with the complete buying experience as well.

With Amazon, books are not the kingdom...they are the keys to that kingdom.

It's the perception of quality of service not the quality of books.
