Arthur,

I, like Westmoreland, appreciate Kemble's "spirit". However, I completely agree with your post as I am relatively new here at DELL (2 years) and am almost completely margined on this stock.

I am concerned about the earnings report as the past two have not been good to the stock. Also, I am not a long term investor right now. (I am going 100% cash within a month or two so I can pick up some bargains when the market crashes due to the Y2K panic).

Thus, as a short term investor (until 1/99 anyway), I appreciate your opinions which I find to be a refreshing respite from the rampant bullishness around here.

Thank you for your posts.

DK

IMO beginners should not be using margin!

arthur..."protection of the community"...

well put my friend, you react to the over positive thoughts, as i react to the overly negative, if any dialogue is to benefit all, regardless of "experience" or "experiences", a balance must be struck and maintained, your earlier posting on the sometimes evil machinations of the market is well timed..........the important thing to remember is to "invest", not trade, limit margin, for this will allow the majority the ability to be as peaceful as kemble....buy fundamentals, don't gamble, treat your stock ownership as if it is your business......and long term you will reap the rewards..i will leave you with a comment from buffett..

"you don't need to be a rocket scientist. investing is not a game where the guy with the 160 IQ beats the guy with the 130 IQ. rationality is essential."

MARKET HAS RECENTLY LACKED THE ALL IMPORTANT RATIONALITY.....GOOD LUCK, ED A.

arthur -
Let me add my support to your posts. I agree with all of the posters who say that DELL will make numbers, future looks bright, etc. but that is not a guarantee of good short term performance. Anyone who bought into the enthusiasm on this thread and bought on margin at the end of January, early February, late March or early April would be bleeding at this point. There were in fact only 2 decent buying opportunities in the last 3 months. People like me with a basis under $10 can take all of this with a grain of salt, but someone who bought on margin at 45, 47, 48 or higher might be tempted to "get out from under" on a rise after earnings which may not happen.

Thanks for adding some common sense to the discussion.

Arthur,

Many beginners are tempted to overuse their margin.

How true!
