Derek, thanks for the Stratfor link--- sensible as ever...nuke popped up briefly today, I believe (or was it yesterday), but has been curiously absent otherwise...

D. Long,

The only "thermal" bombs, other than nuclear, I've ever been acquainted with are Napalm and Fuel-Air explosives.

FAE's are basicallly cannisters of ethylene oxide, if my memory serves correctly, which is released as an aerosol and ignited within a few feet of the target. It generates massive overpressures and high heat, something tantamount to a small nuclear explosion (without the radiation).

The result is a very useful weapon for clearing minefields and destroying surface bunker facilities, as well as killing masses of individuals.

Regards,

Ron
