KalKan - Re: "I am more afraid of the shrinking value of my INTC position, since it is by far the largest in my portfolio."

Sell your Intel - when the market opens tomorrow.

AMD's K7 is going to be released in a few weeks at 700 to 900 MHz, all major OEM's have announced adoption of the K7 and are discontinuing the use of ALL INTEL PRODUCTS.

AMD will keep K7 prices below $99, crippling Intel. AMD's yields are now approaching 100% - so their costs are near zero !

By Friday, AMD may be the only x86 CPU maker still in business.

If you're a long term investor, you should not be worried. In the short term Intel will be in a trading range. Intel made a strategic error not recoginizing the impact of the low end PC and the internet. This resulted in the problems we see today. It seems there is a strategy now for addressing the low end pc, internet appliance, ...etc. If there is a company which can respond to market shifts quickly, it is Intel. There is the risk they won't market leaders driving the market, but rather followers reacting to the market. I don't believe this will be the case. In any case, it will take time before the situation improves.
