If financial instruments all go to hell in a handcart someone has to liquidate index fund money with no hard equity in anything but the funds which are at the disposal to the administrative bank ... If finanacial instruments go to hell in a handcart everything including index funds will be hammered. My understanding is that Vanguard's index funds do indeed have an equity base but it's been a very long time since I checked into it. --Mike Buckley
