Public Service Enterprise to Spend $500 Mln on Brazil Plant in Parana

Sao Paulo, May 18 (Bloomberg) -- Public Service Enterprise
Group Inc. will spend $500 million to build a 600-megawatt
thermoelectric plant in Curitiba, in southern Brazil, Gazeta
Mercantil newspaper reported. The plant will be built in
partnership with state-controlled Petroleo Brasileiro SA and is
expected to start construction within 12 months. PSEG's Brazilian
unit said the company is interested in investing in electric
utilities in the country's southern region, with a focus on the
sale of Centrais Eletricas de Santa Catarina SA and Cia.
Paranaense de Energia.

PSEG, which has interests in 24 power plants in the U.S. and
overseas, won a contract from Petrobras last year to build a 480-
megawatt plant powered by residual fuel, a product of oil
refining.
