Dell's dealings in options does not appear on the balance
sheet, and does not "prop up" or add anything to their
OPERATING results. This has been discussed to death on
the Dell thread.

Here is a summary post on this topic from a well-respected
member of the Dell thread who happens to also be a
financial analyst (in real life):

"Earnings are not impacted by options. Buying and selling the stock
or the derivatives based on the stock are not considered income
items. Therefore, any earnings attributable to derivatives are
in addition to earnings. Options are not included on the P/L -- you
will find the impact buried in the equity section."
