Compaq Delivers FutureSourcing Services for SAP R/3 Operations in Windows NT Environments

May 18, 1999 09:07 AM
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999--

Editor's Summary:

--Expands Compaq's outsourcing services capability as an Application Service Provider (ASP) for the SMB market segment.

--Builds on Compaq's leadership and expertise in SAP installations, Microsoft Windows NT integration, and operations management.

--Service to be sold exclusively through authorized channel partners to the SMB market segment.

Compaq Computer Corporation CPQ today announced the Compaq FutureSourcingSM Utility for SAP R/3, offering comprehensive services for a secure, reliable, and ready-to-go infrastructure supporting SAP R/3 4.0 applications for Microsoft Windows NT. The Compaq FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3 gives small-to-medium-sized businesses immediate access to enterprise-class systems and expertise to implement SAP applications.

The new utility service will be sold to the small and medium business market exclusively by authorized Compaq resellers and integrators who wish to add complementary capabilities to their SAP services in the continental United States.

In support of the Company's NonStop(R) eBusiness model, Compaq Services will deliver the service over the Internet from its Operations Management Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Compaq is offering round-the-clock server management and network support within its Class A datacenter. FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3 supports the application's sales and distribution, manufacturing, and finance modules.

"The Compaq FutureSourcing for SAP R/3 Utility encompasses the experience and expertise we've developed over several years of providing custom infrastructure operations management services on a contract basis," said Tim Leisman, Vice President and General Manager, Operations Management Services, Compaq Services Group. "This new offering also expands Compaq's portfolio of computing utility-based outsourced service offerings that support customers' needs to manage their total cost of ownership through predictable costs."

The demand for information technology (IT) to support customers' dynamic business requirements is becoming as critical as electricity and telephone service. Six years ago, the former Digital Worldwide Services, now Compaq Services, introduced the industry's first PC Utility, a comprehensive suite of services including asset management, support, and financing. Last fall, Compaq announced the Microsoft Exchange Utility service. Leisman added, "These offerings give customers reliable and flexible computing and applications services for a set price per seat."

Compaq's FutureSourcing brand of outsourcing services delivers the capability, capacity, and coverage to meet companies' IT needs as they move to complex, distributed client/server environments.

Partner-based Selling Model

This is the first Compaq FutureSourcing utility to be offered exclusively by Compaq authorized partners to the small and medium business market, extending Compaq's reach to that market segment in the United States. Compaq Services also offers its FutureSourcing utilities direct to larger multi-national enterprises.

Two partners today announced that they will resell the Compaq FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3. They are OAO Technology Solutions, Inc. of Greenbelt, Md., and Total Tec Systems, Inc., of Edison, N.J. These two existing Compaq partners have provided SAP-related products and services to more than 30 customers.

OAO Technology Solutions OAOT oaot.com, a leading provider of information technology solutions and services, has been working with Compaq Services in several outsourcing engagements, including Citibank, TransAlta, and the University Health Network, formerly The Toronto Hospital. OAO Technology Solutions is a SAP National Implementation Partner and a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider.

"The FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3 is a natural extension to our existing relationships with Compaq and our Windows NT and SAP expertise," said Greg Pratt, Chief Executive Officer, OAO Technology Solutions. "We expect customers to be very interested in outsourcing the management of the infrastructure supporting SAP-based applications."

Total Tec Systems, a Compaq enterprise distributor and solutions provider, resells only Compaq systems. Later this spring Total Tec will open an SAP demonstration center in New Jersey featuring Compaq ProLiant servers and Compaq AlphaServers and high-availability Compaq StorageWorks products.

Larry Holzenthaler, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Total Tec Systems, said, "The FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3 is a perfect complement to what we offer. Some customers who select us for design, integration, deployment, and support services may also want to outsource operations management to an experienced provider such as Compaq. For many years with Digital, and now with Compaq, we have grown our services business by providing mission critical business continuity and recovery services."

FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3 for Windows NT

Compaq, SAP's largest partner, is the first company to have more than 5,000 SAP installations worldwide and has won nearly 50 percent of the market for SAP in Windows NT environments. Compaq ProLiant servers are dedicated per customer for the new service, and access via the Internet is secure with Compaq AltaVista software. Compaq Services manages and supports the servers and the computing environment within its Operations Management Center in Colorado Springs. The customer or its selected partner is responsible for the Internet connection and operations within the client's facility.

The following capabilities are delivered by Compaq at a fixed price based on users, dedicated servers and delivery team per customer, and installation of one SAP upgrade per year:

--Class A datacenter with maximum security, multiple power sources and telecommunications connections with fire prevention and detection systems

--99.95 percent uptime guarantee, 24 hours a day covering systems and the network in Compaq's Operations Management Center

--A configuration validated at Compaq's SAP Competency Center ss. Operations support via the Internet or toll-free emergency telephone number

Service options from Compaq or its partners include business continuity and disaster planning at the client site, SAP consulting, local and wide area network management, end user help desk, systems configuration, installation, technology refresh, and financing.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the Compaq-supplied services will be negotiated between the Compaq reseller partners and their customers. The approximate price range is from $600 per concurrent user per month for 50 people, to $300 per concurrent user per month for 600 people. Client software licenses are not included in the FutureSourcing Utility for SAP R/3.

ClearWorks.net Acquires Fast-Growing Systems-Integration Firm, Reorganizes to Provide Across-the-Board Bundled Digital Services

May 18, 1999 08:29 AM
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1999--ClearWorks.net CLWK , a Houston-based high-tech company that is pioneering the concept of bundled digital services in residential and commercial developments, announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Archer Mickelson Technologies, L.L.C., a fast-growing systems-integration firm in Houston.

Archer Mickelson's impressive group of corporate clients includes Maxxam Inc. MXM and Casa Ole Restaurants CASA , as well as many other Fortune 500 companies, all of which will be added to ClearWorks' existing customer base.

All existing Archer Mickelson clients are being offered the opportunity to use ClearWorks' bundled digital services in their office environments. These include dial tone and digital long-distance service, high-speed Internet connectivity at speeds 2,000 times faster than a standard 56k-modem dial-up, videoconferencing and dedicated video channels.

According to Michael T. McClere, ClearWorks CEO, the high-quality management team at Archer Mickelson, headed by president Brian Mickelson, will form the core of ClearWorks' new ClearWorks Integration Services Inc. subsidiary.

"Archer Mickelson is profitable," said McClere, "and will add an estimated $3-$4 million to our 1999 revenues. But more importantly, Brian Mickelson and his staff give ClearWorks a running head start as we expand our dominant position in the field of bundled digital services."

ClearWorks.net is a turnkey provider of voice, data and video services for commercial, residential and educational customers. The company's goal is to become the industry leader in voice, data and video solutions by integrating technology and technology-based companies into a corporate structure focused on delivering a suite of digital services to its clients.

Earlier this month, ClearWorks.net announced that it has commenced production of a proprietary set-top box for the delivery of its bundled digital services to homeowners in new residential communities. The company's unique set-top box design will provide homeowners with full functionality of a personal computer, with the integrated ability to deliver high-quality video streams utilizing Internet Protocol (IP) technology.

In recent weeks, ClearWorks.net has reorganized into major operating subsidiaries that includes ClearWorks Residential Services Inc., which will continue to serve the residential market with bundled digital services, ClearWorks Commercial Services Inc., which will provide digital services to office buildings and the commercial sector, and the new ClearWorks Integration Services Inc. subsidiary.

"There is an enormous market for the Integration Services unit," McClere said. "By assimilating the Archer Mickelson team into ClearWorks, we can capitalize on their expertise and knowledge, speeding up our market penetration."

ClearWorks enjoys a strategic relationship with IBM IBM , integrating IBM solutions to residential customers by implementing IBM's Home Director technology into new homes. Home Director allows for a technology infrastructure to be built into the home, including advanced wiring, closed-circuit TV, a local area network and telephone distribution capabilities.

ClearWorks Residential Services announced in March its first contract to provide bundled digital services to 1,200 new homes in the Canyon Gate at Northpointe subdivision in Houston, located about one mile from the headquarters of Compaq Computer CPQ . Later that same month, ClearWorks contracted to provide similar services at the 1,500-home Canyon Gate at Cinco Ranch development west of Houston.
