Like Nicholas Wade's previous NYTimes articles on the "race for the genome", INCY goes unmentioned; this time, HGSI has also dropped below his radar screen. [chorus from Rocketman about East-coat media bias . . .] Wade's appalling ignorance [whether willful or just lazy] of the wider context in which Venter is operating -- ignorance of the likelihood, or at least the possibility, that INCY and others are way ahead of both Venter/Celera and the "public" effort that is painted as their only competition -- is astonishing. So much for "balanced" science journalism, easily swept aside by Craig Venter's ability to charm journalists and editors. [rumbling chorus from Rocketman . . .] --RCM
