Xybernaut(R)'s Annual Wearable Computing Conference Goes International; Stuttgart, Germany Site of World's Largest Event for the Wearables Industry

FAIRFAX, Va., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Xybernaut Corporation (Nasdaq: XYBR), the leader in wearable computing, announced today that it will be hosting the annual International Conference on Wearable Computing (ICWC) in Stuttgart, Germany. Last year, Xybernaut's ICWC '98 was held in the United States in Fairfax, Virginia, near its corporate headquarters. A company spokesperson confirmed that next year's ICWC 2000 is currently scheduled to be held in Asia.

The theme of this year's conference is "Wearable Computing Enables Pervasive Information Collaboration." Topics will focus on Information Collaboration, Evolving Wearable Markets, Pervasive Solutions for Wearables, Technologies Creating Markets, the Wearable Technology Roadmap, and Solutions Attracting Users. The event is focused on both current and prospective users, techies and mainstream users alike, anyone with an interest in harnessing technology to transform knowledge into productivity and profit. Speech-activated, hands-free, feet-free, portable PCs support users anywhere work demands that they have access to information, the Internet and the network without being tied to a desk.

Keynote speakers at this year's conference include Dr. Steve Mann, Professor at the University of Toronto and co-founder of the wearables group at MIT; Dr. Horst Mehrlander, State Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Republic of Germany; Mr. Erwin Staudt, General Manager, IBM Germany; Dr. Georg Urban, Director of Logistics, R&D, DaimlerChrysler, Germany; and Diethard Eschenlohr, General Manager, Hewlett-Packard Company's Complementary Products Europe; amongst many others.

Dr. Edwin Vogt, Xybernaut's Senior Vice President and General Manager, European Operations commented, "Xybernaut is very proud to once again play host to the largest event in the world focused solely on wearable computing. We received such a great turn out and positive feedback from last year's conference, we knew this would become an international event." He went on to say, "At no other event can you find the leaders in this quickly-growing industry in one location, sharing the latest breakthroughs in wearable technology and their predictions for what the future of wearables will bring."

Maurizio Gasperi, business development manager at HP's Complementary Products Division, added, "We see the future of wearables aligned with our own interest in providing maximum flexibility to customers in accessing information wherever it is needed. The ICWC is an ideal forum to bring together manufacturers, application developers, service providers, research groups and customers in an environment that supports this exciting technology and helps identify new directions and create new alliances. We are thrilled to be a part of this new industry."

Last year's ICWC '98 brought together more than sixty speakers and approximately three hundred attendees to discuss such topics as Top Horizontal and Vertical Markets, Replicating Wearable Solutions, Rapid Development Environments, Client Solutions in Enterprise Networks, Integrating Wearables into the Enterprise, and much more. Keynote speakers represented a cross-section of industries and included such industry leaders as Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, General Dynamics, and DynCorp, among others. Because the event was so successful and drew attention from both Europe and Asia, Xybernaut decided to make it truly an international event and hold it in Europe in 1999.

The MA IV(TM) is now available and being shipped to end users worldwide. It is a WINTEL 233 MHZ MMX belt-worn computer, with up to 128 MB of SDRAM, a color VGA head-mounted display suspended in front of either eye with microphone and earphone or an optional wrist-mounted VGA flat panel touch screen color display, a miniature keyboard, a battery pack, and integrated voice-recognition software. With US base pricing below $5,000, the market for wearable PCs is now attractive for applications where computers have never been used before, and to those organizations seeking to leverage the productivity aspects of wearable PCs not available in conventional computing.

XYBRW Survey Final Call

My thanks to those who have participated in my informal XYBRW survey. For those who have not yet done so, please consider doing so. I will close the survey tomorrow and send the results to XYBR management over the weekend.

Recap: The purpose of this survey is to help XYBR management understand the number of warrants folks are holding and how long they have held them. This information was requested by Ed Newman (XYBR's CEO) during my recent visit on the 12th when I queried him on the subject of possible warrant extension. This information will be one factor they consider when making a possible extension decision.

To participate, please either post here or send e-mail to me at wtf@adelphia.net stating the number of XYBRW you hold and for how long you have held them. Any information sent via e-mail will be held in confidence and used solely to provide statistical information to XYBR management on this subject.

Thank you.
