How can a buyer have confidence that the price gotten via ABTL is better than, say, the Costco dealer network? Other than shopping around, I mean.

Do people (a) require assurance that WalMart has the absolute minimum prices or (b) does the fact that people generally agree that WalMart has very competitive prices suffices?

The answer is (b). If ABTL becomes the ToM concept on car sales on the web you don't have to be the lowest price out there. Neither is AMZN and they are numero uno on book sales (now if only the could find a way to make profits, but I digress...)
