Sierra Leone agrees
on ceasefire
OWN CORRESPONDENT, Lome | Tuesday 8.20pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIERRA LEONE"S President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and rebel leader Foday Sankoh have agreed on a ceasefire in the west African state from May 24, they announced on Tuesday after talks in Lome.
The announcement came after the talks between Kabbah, Sankoh, Togo's President Gnassingbe Eyadema and the United States special envoy to Africa, Jesse Jackson
. "There is a real desire to promote a process of dialogue with the aim of establishing lasting peace and stability in Sierra Leone, while at the same time being conscious of creating an atmosphere favourable for peace negotiations in Lome to move forward," a statement said.
The ceasefire will take effect the same day as ministers from seven countries from the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) will convene in Lome. On Tuesday May 25, direct talks will begin between the Kabbah government and rebels of the Revolutionary United Front, the announcement said.
Sankoh, the RUF's enigmatic leader, has been in the Togolese capital for a month, during which he and his rebel followers have produced ideas for bringing peace to the war-ravaged nation.
Last October, the rebel chief was sentenced to death for his role in collaborating with a junta that ousted Kabbah in May 1997. Kabbah, who had been ousted by the rebels, was reinstated in February 1998 by a Nigerian-led west African intervention force which has defended his government against the insurgents since. -- AFP

Laurie, I know it is a tall order, but would you be able to
post the trades since May 1. I am especially interested in the
trading pattern after the halt was announced (ie. who crossed
the large block of shares May 18). Does it look like Serge is
still buying. He'll have to hustle if he doesn't want to pay
too much for the next 10% of the company.

Thanks in advance,

Bob
