Richard,

<<AMAT beat the whisper by a long shot: $0.36, with all-time-high bookings of $1.39 billion, up 35% from the previous quarter, and also up 35% from a year ago. The previous high in bookings was $1.37 billion, reported Nov. 20, 1997.>>

Last Sunday I forecasted $.35 for Amat. I'm just a retail slob with a day job and can't figure out how these over-paid idiots on the Street can keep their jobs with a FC est of $.27 for the Q.

And of course yesterday we get a "Research Alert" from Smith Barney lowering ratings on Amat, Klac, Nvls and Lrcx. Who the hell are these people and how can they keep their jobs with work like this?

The meat of that "Research Alert" and the specific comments of Amat today are diametrically opposed. Does anyone care to comment on the quality of their work besides me?

As ever, D
