Well, although the CDDirect property page claimed 4x write speed,
my throughput on saving a 13 mb file was about 270,000 bytes/sec,
or about 1.9x speed total throughput. Of course this was
across the network and included file system time, but it
looks to me like it's probably writing at 2x, despite the claim.
There's bound to be packet overhead, but not THAT much packet
overhead. This was a single file, so the file system overhead
should be minimal, and I had just created the directory I
dropped it on, so I'd waked up the sleeping drivers, etc.

Next time I save something, I'm going to copy it
to the local hard disk then dump it on the CD-R drive, just
to eliminate some variables. But I still think it's
secretly writing at 2x ... <g>.
