akmike,

Good question, sorry I don't have a complete answer.

"..what are the features which will separate the successful products from the others? Which will be most important to which users and which users will be at the head of the purchasing line?"

I don't want to seem evasive about this. The target time frame we spoke of, being over the next couple of years, could see at least several generations of improvements in the current fold. Improvements in both photonics and greater integration levels in chips could cause radical changes to the bulky, almost breadboard like, designs we're now looking at. These lower level, granular factors will affect pricing, features, scalability, ease of administration, etc., and only time and success in the labs will tell the degree.

I think that it would be safe to say that the same attributes and differentiators, if viewed at a higher level than the issues just cited, would be relevant here as those which were used in the past to influence the designs of the next steps up to 100Mb/s, Gb/s, and multi-hundred gigabit/sec elements we now have in place.

Anyone else care to add to this?

Regards, Frank Coluccio
