Well apparently some of these consoles will run Linux.

However we are still aways yet from the ultimate systems.

Sony seems to me to have their act together the best:

The are putting firewire into their next generation HDTV and video system components.
They are working with WDC on next generation hard drives for digital VCR's etc.
PlaystationII runs Linux and will included DVD and modem for Internet access.

If you connect the dots you can see ther overall positioning as game consoles, and HDTV and computers merge.

I still think folks will have a desktop in their home office networked to the home entertainment system. But the dollars may be much bigger in the entertainment system space than in the home office space.
